Mill Road has recently been described as 'the new Islington'! Others still remember it as the route to the Workhouse.

Take a stroll down Mill Road with local historian Allan Brigham and SEE the Victorian workhouse! Discover the site of the mill that gave the road it's name. See where the only steam locomotive manufactured in Cambridge was made. And hear about life in the recent past when children still slept four to a bed and the tin bath hung on the outside wall awaiting 'the weekly 'bath night'' scrub.
....and end with a meal or a drink in one of the many pubs or restaurants ?

Something else to look out for - all day various street performers, musicians, dancers will suddenly appear and leap into action in unexpected places

Greenwheels Rickshaws will ply up and down Mill Road all day to transport you over the bridge or to any of the many events and performances.

10:30 17:00 The tree-lined street of Mill Road TREES OF MILL ROAD – an arboricultural experience on a busy street!

If you walk the length of Mill Road, from the Parker's Piece end to Brookfields and the junction with Perne Road you will pass many species of trees and shrubs. They are an interesting mixture of British natives and species from all over the world – mirroring the diverse human population of the area.

Keith Jordan of Romsey Garden Club has put together a list of these to help you identify the trees as you walk along Mill Road. A short list will be available in the printed programme and a longer one in the marquee on the day of the Fair, plus, more generally, Arjuna, Penguin American Dry Cleaners, Bacchanalia, Smart Cartridge, The Post Office at Al-Amin, St. Philip’s Church and Cutlacks

Entrance will be free although there will be a silver collection for Lifecraft and the Mill Road charities involved.

Throughout the day, tea, coffee and delicious pastries will be available and there will also be the opportunity to purchase the clothes from the collection after the show.

Mill Road Art Elijah Griffiths, a student of art and design at Cambridge Regional College and resident at the Youth Foyer, is interested in recording community events in the vicinity of Mill Road

A series of collages illustrating the musical and cultural influences in Cambridge during the early 1960's, executed by Stephen Pyle in the style of contemporary pop art. Also a selected display of the 'Roots of Cambridge Rock' (a sort of family tree) from Syd Barrett's time with 'Pink Floyd' going backwards from 1964 to 1960, showing the various local 'rock' bands that played in Cambridge. Collated and researched by Warren Dosanjh.

Both the above were part of the scenic concept for the recently staged series of concerts called: 'thecitywakes', which was in aid of arts in mental health.
